Shanghai Film Park

During our six-week-long holiday in Shanghai last winter, Q and I visited the Shanghai Film Park. Though it is located quite a bit away from the denser city center, it’s still worth a visit.
The sprawling complex is both a tourist attraction and a working film studio. While we were there, we saw areas blocked off for active filming. People also come to do engagement photoshoots in period dress.
Though there are different areas, each focused on a particular place and time period, the most famous are the streets meant to replicate Nanjing Road (南京路) in the 1930s.
Over the years, the complex has been added to as movies or television shows need new sets. Many world-famous movies and shows have been filmed there including Temptress Moon, The White Countess, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emporer, and Wong Kar-wai’s recent television series, Blossoms Shanghai.
Unfortunately, we weren’t able to walk through the Huanghe Road section with its glowing neon signs as it was still under renovation. We did get a peak through a window.
That cold day, aside from the active film shoot, there were very few other tourists. We had the chance to meander, photograph, and explore on our own. Here are some photographs I took.
